Scanning the QR code directs camera phone users to the official unofficial event blog, where they may click on the “About” link for more party info and to RSVP.

Georgette: No Lightweight Folk & Jazz Ensemble

The band’s name implies a fabric of lightweight sheerness, but the sound of Austin indie ensemble Georgette brings a weighted songwriting and musicianship tapestry of folk, jazz, and popular music to the stage and studio. Tango In The Attic: You Never Forget Your First SXSW Or Your First Music Video

Tango In The Attic [Tuesday, March 13, 2:00pm]

The accurately self-described “offbeat slopey pop” of Tango In The Attic returns to SXSW. The indie pop/rock band from Scotland that seems to sail more than surf left a lovely first impression on more than a few music lovers and journalists last year, and enjoyed they experience so much they’re back to wow more of us.

Before their first SXSW appearance, Tango In The Attic made their first official music video, for “Sketch By Quentin Blake”. Directed by the band, the video pays homage to “Be Kind Rewind” director Michel Gondry and celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl.

The solo act of Bloody Beach member Chris Holm exudes pop vigor and swagger, live and on record. Currently on tour as opening support for Tellé Records and Norwegian music mate Sondre Lerche, Holm is currently crafting a release in the works in between live performances which eclectically combines elements of recognizable 20^th century genres, with “good times vibe” 21^stcentury pop futurism.

Bloody Beach shares international 'pirate radio' treasures @ SXSW:

Where to begin with Bloody Beach?… Maybe with their international appeal.

“The music of Bloody Beach is a conglomerate of musical styles from around the world, but always with a firm foothold in energetic indie rock. Everyone from Turkish DJs to Scandinavian indie kids has been blown away by their live performances. Danceable songs fronted by a great front man, which have the power to turn any audience into a smiling, dancing crowd.”

The eclectic indie band from Norway’s appeal is evident in their “Gonzo” style of music as performers, and as music lovers with a penchant for compiling and sharing favorite tunes from around the world (see Bloody Beach Pirate Radio IV).

Art Institute exhibits the best of new wave, post-punk Houston:

New wave trio Art Institute releases an eponymous split EP 7” with Austin’s KNIFIGHT the same week they perform at Indie Radio Rocks The World 2. The band’s name suggests more of an irreverent (piss)take on the art schools that profit more than the certified artists that graduate, but Art Institute does sound artful, blending their loves of early new wave, and post punk music with an artless exuberance not to be missed live.

Mittenfields Turns The Volume "Up To 11" During SXSW:

The Washington D.C. shoegaze and noise rock/pop band turns the volume “up to 11” during SXSW.

Mittenfields isn’t comfortable simply covering or mimicking their D.C. indie rock predecessor’s successes:

“Combining a densely layered three‐guitar attack with raw, nervy vocals, Mittenfields have drawn comparisons to some of the best indie rock acts of the 1990s. Far from an exercise in pure nostalgia, however, the DC‐based ensemble has crafted its own unique sound combining elements of indie rock, shoegaze and noise pop.”

I blogged too hastily earlier. After receiving many indie musician referrals from agents, managers, labels, and the artists themselves, I decided to bring back the unofficial SXSW showcase!

Performers have been confirmed for two days at the awesome Bernadette’s Bar, and the schedule and few more surprises will be announced soon!

‘Rock The Pilot’: Improvised Test/Pilot Podcast

“Juliet The Painting” from Silent Diane’s Riverside 7” (Answering Machine Recordings)

Tentatively titled “Rock The Pilot” w/ diy danna, the 30-minute Austin music pilot is my very first recorded attempt at a series of shows for Radio Casbah, in which I program selections from the richly diverse local music scene. There is no genre-specific format, but I may include thematic elements in the show on a regular basis. For example: Although tonight’s completely improvised recorded show featured random selections, all my selections happen to feature local musicians who incorporate electronic elements in their recordings and live performances, like synthesizers and circuit bending.

Playlist (Saturday, March 19, 2011, divided into 3 parts due to blog post limits)

1. “Macintosh Tapes” (Weird Life EP - a trial recording for the forthcoming Truck Month LP, BUGSOUND) - SLUGBUG, an analog synth “white nerd funk” band.

2. “The False Cross” (Boy Friend, self-released Jan. 2011) - Boy Friend, Austin shoegaze/chillwave duo Christa Palazzolo (formerly of Belaire and Sleep∞Over), and Sarah Brown (formerly of Sleep∞Over)

3. “Bending Trees” (YouTube video version of single from The Hearts and The Minds EP) - The Hearts and The Minds, a psychedelic pop band that incorporates electronics/circuit bending.

4. “Juliet The Painting” (b-side of Riverside 7”, Answering Machine Recordings) - Silent Diane, a minimal, gothic, surreal vocal and synthesizer duo.

5. “4 A Limited Time” (digital download single) - LOST CAT MAGNET, solo synth/art-rock musician Ricardo Acevedo.
