1. …and we’re back!

I blogged too hastily earlier. After receiving many indie musician referrals from agents, managers, labels, and the artists themselves, I decided to bring back the unofficial SXSW showcase!
Performers have been confirmed for two days at the awesome Bernadette’s Bar, and the schedule and few more surprises will be announced soon!
Check our our event at one of your favorite sites in the meantime:
Do512, Eventbrite, and Facebook.
I’m excited! I hope you are too - because our second year brings the rompus*!
~Danna~ for Anti-Gravity
*Rock + rumpus!

‘Rock The Pilot’: Improvised Test/Pilot Podcast

Juliet The Painting - Silent Diane

“Juliet The Painting” from Silent Diane’s Riverside 7” (Answering Machine Recordings)

Tentatively titled “Rock The Pilot” w/ diy danna, the 30-minute Austin music pilot is my very first recorded attempt at a series of shows for Radio Casbah, in which I program selections from the richly diverse local music scene. There is no genre-specific format, but I may include thematic elements in the show on a regular basis. For example: Although tonight’s completely improvised recorded show featured random selections, all my selections happen to feature local musicians who incorporate electronic elements in their recordings and live performances, like synthesizers and circuit bending.

Playlist (Saturday, March 19, 2011, divided into 3 parts due to blog post limits)

    1. “Macintosh Tapes” (Weird Life EP - a trial recording for the forthcoming Truck Month LP, BUGSOUND) - SLUGBUG, an analog synth “white nerd funk” band.

    2. “The False Cross” (Boy Friend, self-released Jan. 2011) - Boy Friend, Austin shoegaze/chillwave duo Christa Palazzolo (formerly of Belaire and Sleep∞Over), and Sarah Brown (formerly of Sleep∞Over)

    3. “Bending Trees” (YouTube video version of single from The Hearts and The Minds EP) - The Hearts and The Minds, a psychedelic pop band that incorporates electronics/circuit bending.

    4. “Juliet The Painting” (b-side of Riverside 7”, Answering Machine Recordings) - Silent Diane, a minimal, gothic, surreal vocal and synthesizer duo.

    5. “4 A Limited Time” (digital download single) - LOST CAT MAGNET, solo synth/art-rock musician Ricardo Acevedo.

    Listen @ SoundCloud:

Part 1 - SLUGBUG and Boy Friend

Part 2 - The Hearts and The Minds

Part 3 (top link/audio file) - Silent Diane and LOST CAT MAGNET

Perhaps next week’s show, if there is one, will be feature experimental, noise, and improvisational bands from Austin.

    Comments and suggestions are welcome!

  5. ➞ Bad Blood Bleeds Fine Country Songwriting and Performances

In 2010, well-known Austin indie rockers and songwriters John Rose and Seth Whaland embarked on a new musical journey as Bad Blood. Captivating melodies, in-sync harmonizing and guitar strumming accompany clear, storytelling lyrics that range from pensive to humorous. This makes Bad Blood a country pair you don’t want to miss live.

Bad Blood is the hard act to follow, performing at 12:15 pm on the Cherry Stage (inside) of Cherrywood Coffehouse, Wed. 3/16.

  6. Darwin’s Finches Flock to Rock Austin
Originally formed as a social and art experiment by biology students on Galveston island, garage rock trio Darwin’s Finches is best experienced live.  Although their whimsical to soulful recordings may delight listeners, true fans are wowed by their bursting sets of artsy meets bluesy sounds that smartly opposes the constraints of commercial radio sensibility.

Listen to “Shoefly Pie” and more by Darwin’s Finches.
Get released from the commercially packaged music cage: Darwin’s Finches perform “cathartic/psychotic” rock live on the Wood Stage (outside) at 3:00pm.

  7. ➞ The Latest News From The Coast of Nebraska

Upstate New Yorkers The Coast of Nebraska moved to Austin, Texas in 2010, not long aftter releasing their debut album Welcome To… There is a sense of humor meshed with the seriousness of their psychedelic rock influenced and semi-polished gemstone pop melodies, matched with catchy riffs that make the duo interesting and fun to listen to live.

Listen to and download Welcome To…

Guitarist and vocalist Matt Bell and drummer Will Hoback are currently playing fun, energetic sets in Austin and other parts of Texas while working on a new album filled with more melodic and thoughtful songwriting—and catchy riff rock goodness.

The Coast of Nebraska plays for keeps at Indie Radio Rocks The World on the Wood Stage (outside) of Cherrywood Coffeehouse, Wed. 3/16 at 2:15pm.
